Are you a writer looking to earn some extra income in 2023? Gone are the days when publishing books was the only way to make money as a writer.

Today, writers can earn money in several cool and beginner-friendly ways.

In this article, I’ll share four super simple writing side hustles that can help you earn some extra income in 2023. From writing on platforms to ghostwriting and copywriting, this post covers everything you need to know to get started.

1. Writing on a Platform

There are several platforms that pay writers to publish articles on their websites.

Medium

Medium is my favorite platform to get paid by writing about exactly what you want.

The only caveat here is that currently, the Medium Partner Program is open to only 33 countries in the world. It’s not available in countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, or Brazil.

If you can’t write on Medium for money, there are other platforms that pay as well.

Vocal.Media

On Vocal, you can earn money by publishing both fiction and non-fiction. Check out this detailed tutorial on Vocal.Media to start earning for your stories.

NewsBreak

This is another cool platform that pays writers for covering articles on current affairs and politics in the US. NewsBreak has a pay-per-view model. The more views your articles get, the more money you can earn.

2. Blogging

With blogging, all you have to do is buy a domain or get a free one on WordPress, Wix, Ghost, etc. Then, you need to set up your website and start publishing articles. The best part about earning from blogging is that there are so many different ways you can do to earn directly. Some ideas to monetize your blog are:

Ad Revenue
Selling your own courses or products
Selling products and earning an affiliate income on them
Subscription models where users pay for exclusive content

The possibilities are infinite with blogging.

It takes some initial investment of time and effort. For example, if you were to start a blog today, it would take you at least six months to get your articles ranked and indexed on Google.

I started my blog in November 2022. So far, the views have grown steadily, but they aren’t enough to earn sustainable ad income.

As I mentioned, it takes at least six months to a year and I’m pretty hopeful this venture is going to be lucrative down the line.

3. Ghostwriting

This is a great way to earn extra income but not very great when it comes to building your portfolio or making a name for yourself.

But if you’re a beginner writer, then ghostwriting content for others is a great way to earn extra income.

Upwork, Fiverr, and LinkedIn are great platforms for finding ghostwriting clients.

4. Copywriting

Copywriting is writing with the intention of selling, such as landing pages or website copy. Here, every word you write is targeted to sell.

If you think your words have the power to compel and persuade a casual passerby to invest, then definitely copywriting is a great way to get some extra money.
