For those who are single, in love, or don’t believe in consumerism.

If you are single, don’t feel bad about the countless advertisements and coupon codes for roses or personalised gifts flooding social media. The people behind those ads get paid to make you crave a partner. It is their job.

You cannot let their consumerist tactics make you feel bad. You are a strong individual who is already doing so many wonderful things. You do not need a partner to complete you.

You are better than this. You got this, my friend.

If you are in a relationship, don’t let unrealistic expectations cloud your consciousness.

This message is especially for the ladies: don’t compare your partner with someone else’s boyfriend who gifted them a hundred roses or took them to a surprise trip to Goa. Just because your partner didn’t engage in such a grand gesture, doesn’t mean they love you any less.

Appreciate the small things. Don’t let social media fool you into believing that the only way you can be happy on this day is if you spend thousands of rupees on buying some gift or experience you wouldn’t have bothered about otherwise.

You are better than this. You got this, my friend.

And for all those people who do not believe in consumerism, I am with you.

Nevertheless, spread some love today.

Smile at the security guard who always salutes you. Buy chocolates for the beggar boy you refuse to pay. Make tea and serve biscuits to the maid who works at your home. Be considerate to the neighbour who always looks tired.

Be kind. The world needs more kindness and you have the power to bring it about. Smile more, spread love, & don’t let unrealistic expectations get you down.

You are strong and wonderful and you can do this.

Cheers!
