Poetry in free verse — Poetry Sunday

This was once a love poem,
before these tears blurred my vision
and turned those words into knives.

They shifted and turned on the page,
twisting into strange shapes
I didn’t know my words were capable of,
as if abandoning my heart,
and readying themselves for you.

But my words don’t know
how far away you are,
that no matter how they twist and arrange themselves,
they’ll never find their way to you.

This was once a love poem
Now, it’s just me writing a letter you’ll never read.
