Still Breathing
Source

(Poetry in free verse)

Today I killed a love
that was still breathing;
held it by its beating heart
and cut right through it
with words like blades
leaving a bleeding,
tangled mess -
the debris of something
that was truly beautiful -

something…
that was truly mine.

And now I am afraid
that because
I treated something so precious
with such carelessness,
will I ever get
another chance
to call something so beautiful
mine again?

I know the world is big
and there are so many
wonderful people
whom I’m yet to meet
maybe I’ll even start to love
someone new someday,
but would they love me back
with the same intensity,
the same passion,
the same madness that you did?

I come from a country where Medium hasn’t introduced the Partner Program yet. So if you liked this post, you might consider buying me a beer.

I’m excited to share this with you — I recently published my first book Stolen Reflections: Some stories are told in verse. It is a collection of hand-picked poems and short prose, available in both paperback and e-book formats worldwide. If you like what I write, go ahead and give this book a read. ❤
