a quadruple Etheree

You
are the
rock I build
my life upon,
the one ray of hope
when the blackness descends,
the parachute to cushion
my faith when I come hurtling down
as I fall from cloud nine, dreams shattered,
you help rebuild my world — yes you’re the one.

Yet when you approach, asking for simple
help, like using that smart phone, sending
that text, or simply setting an
alarm, why do I lack the
sufficient patience
to help you out with
that smile of mine
which would set
straight all
wrongs?

Why
do I
frown instead,
complain that you
never learn, that you’re
slowing me down and there’s
no space for laggards in my
fast-paced world? Why don’t I recall
that when I was young and stumbled with
each step, you held my finger and taught me -

To walk? Is it the pace then, that has made
me impatient, ungrateful, blind to
that soul who gave me life? Is it
this very world you brought me in
that has made me forget
your love, and focus
instead on lust,
ambition,
greed and
fame?
