AI Writing Workflow for Freelancers (The Exact Process I Use)
The simple AI workflow I use to research, write, polish, and publish articles faster without sacrificing quality.
When people hear that I use AI in my writing process, they often assume I let ChatGPT write everything for me.
That couldn't be further from the truth.
Over the past few years, I've tested dozens of AI writing tools while creating articles, affiliate content, and long-form SEO pieces. What I've learned is that productivity doesn't come from finding one magical AI tool.
It comes from building a workflow where each tool solves a specific problem.
Today, I rarely start with a blank page, but I also never publish an untouched AI draft.
Here's the exact workflow I use in 2026.
Step 1: Research and plan the article
Every article starts with research.
Before writing anything, I gather information, understand search intent, and decide what readers are actually trying to solve.
Once I know the direction, I outline the article before generating a single paragraph.
Good writing starts with good planning, not better prompting.
Step 2: Generate the first draft with Koala AI
This is where Koala AI becomes my main writing engine.
Instead of opening a blank document, I enter my target keyword, choose the article type, and let Koala generate an outline first.
I almost always edit the outline before generating the article.
That gives me control over:
- the article structure
- the headings
- important sections
- SEO direction
Only after the outline feels right do I generate the draft.
Because Koala handles planning and drafting in the same workflow, it saves me a significant amount of time compared to starting from scratch.

Step 3: Humanize the writing with GPTHuman
A first draft—even a good one—still sounds like a draft.
That's why I run important sections through GPTHuman.
Rather than changing the meaning, I use it to make the writing feel smoother and more natural.
The built-in Human Score also gives me an extra confidence check before I publish.
I usually review the output myself afterward, but GPTHuman removes much of the repetitive editing that used to take the longest.

Step 4: Edit everything manually
This is the part many people skip.
AI speeds up the writing.
It doesn't replace editing.
During this stage I:
- remove repetition
- rewrite awkward sentences
- add personal experience
- include screenshots
- improve transitions
- tighten the introduction
- strengthen the conclusion
This is where the article becomes mine.
Why I don't rely on one AI tool
Every AI tool has strengths.
Koala AI is excellent at producing structured long-form drafts.
GPTHuman excels at making those drafts sound more natural.
Trying to force one tool to do everything usually creates more work instead of less.
A workflow built around complementary tools is far more efficient than chasing a single "perfect" AI writer.
The biggest mistake freelancers make
The biggest productivity mistake isn't using AI.
It's constantly switching between random tools without having a repeatable system.
Every unnecessary decision costs mental energy.
The more your workflow becomes automatic, the more time you spend doing work that actually matters.
My complete writing workflow
Here's what my typical article creation process looks like:
- Research the topic.
- Build the outline.
- Generate the first draft with Koala AI.
- Rewrite important sections using GPTHuman.
- Edit everything manually.
- Publish.
- Repurpose the article into social content.
Simple systems beat complicated ones every time.
Final thoughts
You don't need twenty AI tools.
You need a workflow that you can repeat every week.
For me, that means using AI to remove repetitive work while keeping the thinking, editing, and decision-making human.
The result is faster writing, higher-quality articles, and a process I can comfortably repeat for every new project.
