5 Biggest Lessons I learned in 2019
(This is a picture I clicked with my parents in December 2019 during a cousin’s wedding. I had to travel for 12 hours and face several life-threatening incidents — more on that later — to make it to the wedding. But the smiles on their faces on seeing me was worth every bit of trouble. Hopefully, there will be many more weddings and family functions to attend together in the future)

A review of the year gone by and some tips on how to have a better 2020

  1. You cannot force anything, be it a conversation, a relationship, attention, love, or even friendship. If something is bound to happen, it will. And if something is bound to fail, it will. Spending time and energy worrying about it will not change anything. It is important to learn to let go; to learn to….breathe.
  2. Talking to someone every single day is dangerous. Because there will be a day when they stop talking to you, and that will be the day your heart will be in pieces.
  3. Loving someone and wanting to be with them forever are two distinct emotions. It is possible to love someone with all your heart and still be toxic to their (or your own mental health). It is important to learn that ‘love’ isn’t the solution to all problems. True partnership demands compatibility more than it demands ‘love’.
  4. Honesty isn’t always the best policy. If a small lie can help another person out, there’s no harm in hiding the truth. But then again, there’s a very thin line between being compassionate and being selfish.
  5. Spending time with family is important. As we grow older, our parents start relying on us more and more often — be it for simple decisions of the household, or for important issues like hospital visits. In this busy digital world of today, it is easy to lose ourselves in the hectic lives our jobs leave us with. Taking out time for the people who matter is the most precious, more fruitful way of spending our time.
